A new outbreak of COVID-19 has been declared at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton on the fifth floor of its satellite health facility — the former Crowne Plaza Hotel downtown at 150 King St. E.
Hamilton Public Health Services declared the outbreak after two patients and one health-care worker tested positive for the virus.
In a news release, a spokesperson for the hospital said the patients have been transferred to the COVID-19 unit at the Charlton campus, while the health-care worker is now in isolation.
The fifth floor is now closed for admissions and visitors.
St. Joe’s says all patients and staff on the floor are being tested for COVID-19, and contact tracing is taking place.
According to the news release, Hamilton Public Health, St. Joe’s infection prevention and control (IPAC) and occupational health and safety departments continue to monitor the situation.
Meanwhile, a COVID-19 outbreak on 5MG at St. Joe’s Charlton campus was declared over on Wednesday.
The unit was closed to new patients over the last two weeks, and has now reopened for admissions.
