A 74-year-old Satellite Beach man struck by a sports utility vehicle while attempting to cross a darkened stretch of State Road A1A late Saturday, has died, Florida Highway Patrol investigators reported.
The crash happened about 10:22 p.m., Saturday near the intersection of State Road A1A and Park Avenue in Satellite Beach.
Highway Patrol troopers said the man, who is not being named by the agency, was attempting to walk on the highway in an area without a crosswalk or intersection.
The 37-year-old Melbourne man driving was traveling northbound on A!A in an SUV when the collision happened.
The pedestrian was struck by the front end of the vehicle. He was treated by paramedics and then transported to Holmes Regional Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead by medical workers, highway patrol investigators reported.
An investigation is ongoing.
